harming 19th-century steel engraving titled "The Disguise", engraved by J.E.P. Punchard after a painting by J.C. Churton. This piece beautifully captures a young child playfully dressed in a large cloak or monk-like robe, holding prayer beads and with a mischievous, shy expression.

This image is emblematic of Victorian sentimental art, showcasing innocence and humor through children’s portraiture. The rich detail and delicate crosshatching reflect the engraving techniques popular in the mid-1800s.

Condition:
Good antique condition, some age-related toning and scattered foxing mostly in the margins (see photos). The image remains crisp and clear, with strong contrast and lovely hand coloring.
